Monk Arrested for Theft at Temple

Immigration and police officers in Chiang Rai have apprehended a Malaysian monk accused of theft at Jed Yod Temple in Chiang Mai. The suspect, identified as Paramasivan, 50, was arrested near Wat Phra Chao Lan Thong in Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai.

The investigation began after Chang Phueak police in Chiang Mai received a report of stolen valuables from Jed Yod Temple. Authorities discovered that the foreign monk, who had been staying at the temple, had disappeared following the theft. A court in Chiang Mai subsequently issued an arrest warrant.

While conducting a routine patrol, Thai immigration officers spotted a monk who matched the suspect’s description. Upon questioning, he reportedly confessed to being the wanted individual. He was defrocked and handed over to Thai police for further legal action on charges of theft in a dwelling.
