Mike Tyson is being supported in his quest to achieve something unprecedented in boxing history against Jake Paul. UFC legend Daniel Cormier expressed his thoughts on the upcoming matchup, highlighting the potential for a game-changing moment in the sport.
The heavyweight clash has been rescheduled for November 15, following a summer postponement attributed to Tyson’s ulcer flare-up. The 58-year-old boxing icon has been showcasing his intense training regimen on social media, demonstrating his iconic hand speed and power.
Cormier remarked on Tyson’s impressive shape, commenting on his training sessions with coach Rafael Cordeiro. “He looks intimidating for 58, and I understand what he’s saying about feeling great,” Cormier said. “When he hits the pads, it’s clear that there’s still something left in him. But then I think about Jake Paul’s recent fight against Mike Perry. I saw Paul being pressed to a point of discomfort, where it looked like Perry had a chance.”
He continued, “In the early rounds, Mike Perry seemed to be outmatched, but Jake has a reserve tank, being just 28 years old, which allows him to bounce back and finish the fight.”
Cormier raised concerns that the age difference could become evident in the ring: “What if this looks like a 58-year-old man against a 28-year-old? Mike may not have that reserve tank to draw from to compete effectively with Jake.”
However, he emphasized the complexity of the situation for Paul: “It’s a lose-lose for Jake because if he wins against Mike Tyson, everyone loves Mike Tyson.”
Cormier then posed a captivating scenario: “What if Mike knocks him out? That would change everything. It would be a moment unlike anything in boxing history. It would be an immense backfire for Jake.”
Although Tyson has not fought professionally since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride, he made his return to the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition match against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. Only time will tell what this historic battle brings on November 15.
