One of the greatest heavyweight boxers is having his life story turned into a TV series, with a Mike Tyson biopic going into production.
The upcoming Hulu programme, called Iron Mike, will focus on the boxing legend’s younger years on the mean streets of Brooklyn, before following his journey to becoming the youngest heavyweight champion of the world.
First look pictures show Trevante Rhodes and Laura Harriet stepping out in New York in character as Mike and first wife Robin Givens.
The real-life couple were married in 1988 and divorced in 1989, and the new images showed them taking a shopping trip to designer store Gucci.
Trevante in character as Tyson can be seen holding a handful of shopping bags, stepping out for a spree in New York.
He can be seen in a 80s style double breasted suit as the couple were followed by a large group of paparazzi.
Laura as Robin also looked glamorous in a green double-breasted jacket as she inhabited the role and walked towards a parked limousine.
The scene takes place at some point in 1988 – a whole two years after winning the World Boxing Council (WBC) title at just 20 years old.
Robin was also a star in her own right as a cast member of the sitcom Head of the Class, and the pictures show them both enjoying the spoils of their success.
The American actress divorced Mike in 1989 after being married for eight months and was left distressed by the boxer’s biography Fire and Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson – released the same year as the divorce.
The book mentions the moment he punched Robin while they were married.
The upcoming eight-part series is written by I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie, with Margot Robbie acting a executive producer.
Trevante is known for his breakthrough performance in Moonlight, as well as Netflix’s Birdbox and The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
It’s not the only Mike Tyson biopic in the works, after Jamie Foxx recently revealed his ripped makeover as he bulks up for the role.
