Manchester United have made a second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, thought to be in the region of £45m plus £5m in add-ons.
Despite the improved offer, Everton is expected to reject the bid. Last month, Everton turned down United’s initial bid, which was reported to be £35m plus add-ons, falling considerably short of their valuation for the 21-year-old defender.
Branthwaite is regarded as a key player for Everton, having played 35 times in the Premier League last season. Although he was cut from England’s Euro 2024 preliminary squad, his performance has made him a valuable asset for the club.
Recruiting in the heart of defence is a priority for FA Cup winners Manchester United this summer, especially with Raphael Varane among the players leaving Old Trafford at the end of last season.
When does the summer transfer window open and close?
The 2024 summer transfer window in the Premier League and Scottish Premiership is officially open. The window will close on August 30 at 11 pm UK time in England and at 11:30 pm in Scotland. The Premier League and Scottish Premiership brought forward Deadline Day to align with other major European leagues. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
