A man, 61, fell from a bridge into a canal and drowned on Wednesday night.
Muang Chiang Mai police identified him as Pinij Singtroche of Tambon Mae Hia in Muang district.
Anglers at the canal saw the man fall into the canal and called a foundation that dispatched rescuers.
After they pulled him out of the water, he was resuscitated and rushed to Chiang Mai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His relatives said he left home for a funeral in the evening and disappeared until the drowning was reported.
Police said it was not clear whether he fell or jumped.
