Tourist Police and Immigration Bureau have arrested a group of five Mongolian nationals suspected of pickpocketing tourists at major attractions in Bangkok and Pattaya.
The investigation began on March 11th after a Chinese tourist, Mrs. Sun Yueying (71), reported to Nongprue police that she was pickpocketed while exploring the Pattaya Floating Market. The victim had her purse stolen containing 21,000 Yuan and 1,800 Thai baht.
According to arresting authorities, the suspects operated in teams. They first looked for targets, secretly opened the targets’ bags, and used umbrellas to conceal their wrongful actions. The investigation revealed that the suspects have committed similar crimes at several tourist attractions, shopping malls, and BTS Skytrain stations in Bangkok and Pattaya.
Through collaboration between Tourist Police and Immigration Bureau, officers apprehended five Mongolian nationals at a hotel in Bangkok’s On Nut area on March 23rd. Three of the suspects, Mr. Naidan Nansalmaa (32), Mr. Gangzorig Avirmed (25), and Mr. Amabold Dorikhorol (24), were identified as those under arrest warrants issued by Pattaya Provincial Court. All three reportedly confessed to the crimes and involvement in pickpocketing the Chinese tourist in Pattaya.
The visas of the five suspects have been revoked, and they have also been blacklisted from Thailand. They are currently undergoing deportation proceedings.
