London Broncos finally found their winning form, putting an end to their 10-game winless streak with a decisive 34-18 victory over Hull FC in the Betfred Super League clash at Plough Lane.
The game started with a cagey exchange, but it was Hull FC who struck first blood when Herman Ese’ese broke through the Broncos’ defense to score. However, the Broncos quickly responded as Alex Walker dove over for a try just moments later, leveling the score.
Hull FC regained the lead shortly thereafter, courtesy of a clever dummy from Jake Trueman, who outfoxed the Broncos’ defense to touch down. But the Broncos refused to be deterred, with James Meadows darting through Hull’s defensive line to equalize the score once again.
As halftime approached, the Broncos seized the momentum, taking the lead for the first time in the match. A well-executed play saw Robbie Storey cross over in the corner, giving the Broncos a slender 16-12 advantage heading into the break.
The second half saw a temporary halt in play due to a head injury to Broncos’ captain Will Lovell. Despite the disruption, the Broncos maintained their composure and capitalized on a yellow card shown to Hull’s Jordan Lane.
With a numerical advantage, the Broncos extended their lead further, with Jarred Bassett and Lee Kershaw adding their names to the scoresheet. Despite Hull’s efforts to mount a comeback, the Broncos’ defense held firm, denying their opponents any chance of narrowing the deficit.
As the final whistle blew, relief and jubilation spread among the Broncos’ players and supporters alike. The victory not only ended their prolonged winless streak but also provided a much-needed boost of confidence for the team.
London Broncos boss Mike Eccles expressed his delight at the team’s performance, hailing it as a “massive win for the club” and praising the players for executing the game plan effectively.
Meanwhile, Hull FC interim coach Simon Grix acknowledged his team’s shortcomings, admitting that the Broncos deserved the victory and highlighting the need for his side to show more resilience and toughness in future matches.
With this crucial win under their belts, the London Broncos will look to build on their momentum and continue their climb up the Super League standings in the matches to come.
