On Monday, upper Thailand was blasted by the destructive force of summer storms, which also affected Chachoengsao. Locals in the eastern province were battered for more than an hour by hail, wind, and heavy rain. Massive trees were uprooted by the severe weather, which blocked highways. Property was severely damaged by both strong wind and rain.
In two districts—Muang and Bang Nam Preaw—landslides were caused by the storm’s heavy rainfall. However, neither occurrence resulted in any documented fatalities or injuries.
More than 200 traders huddled in fear as the steel-and-canvas canopy over their heads was buffeted and torn by the gale at the Klong Chao Flea Market in Muang district.
Finally, the wind tore the canvas away, and the steel frame fell onto the stalls below.
Fearing they might be crushed by the steel rods of the canopy, the sellers hurried for safety.
There were no casualties reported at the market, though.
