Farmers in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Khon Buri district held an “urgent” meeting on Wednesday to discuss ways of keeping wildlife from Thap Lan National Park from raiding their crops.
The Tambon Lam Piek Administrative Organisation arranged the brainstorming session, which park official Somsak Kanchanakhot and Army personnel also attended.
This week about 100 wild boars gobbled crops across dozens of rai of farmland in Ban Lam Piek (Moo 11).
Park officials and soldiers said that, to begin with, they would patrol the area and herd any encroaching wildlife back into the woods.
Residents will hang clothes along the edge of the forest in the hope that wild boars will pick up the human scent and retreat.
They also considered getting tiger dung from a zoo for the same purpose.
As a long-term solution, it was agreed that more water sources would be established inside the park so the wildlife wouldn’t have to seek water elsewhere, especially during drought season.
