A pillion rider snatched two durians from a fruit shop in Hua Hin on Wednesday, making off with one hefty specimen worth some Bt1,000.
The shop owner, Ekkapol Kerdlamchiak, 39, called the Hua Hin police station at 9pm to report the theft.
Ekkapol said two men wearing full-face crash helmets stopped their motorcycle in front of his King of Fruits shop near the railway station on Soi Rong Lek and the pillion rider grabbed the stalks of two durians before running back to the bike.
Ekkapol said one durian detached from its stalk and fell, so the thieves fled with only one durian weighing about six kilogrammes.
“If they really wanted to eat durian, they should have asked for it instead of stealing it and risk being jailed,” Ekkapol commented.
Police will check footage from the security camera to try to identify the thieves.
