Former Watford and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has shared the story of how UFC star Paddy Pimblett unintentionally landed him a hefty fine.
During the 2021-2022 season, Liverpool visited Watford’s Vicarage Road, aiming to maintain their lead over Manchester City in the Premier League title race. At that time, Foster was the goalkeeper for Watford, who ultimately suffered a 5-0 defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s side. To add to the drama, Pimblett was in attendance that day but was kicked out by halftime.
On a recent episode of The Fozcast, Foster recounted the incident. “We were chatting on Instagram. I got him four tickets for the game, and they were Watford tickets, so he had to sit in the Watford end,” he explained. “I told Paddy, ‘I can get you four tickets, but you need to keep it on the down low. Don’t post it online, and don’t celebrate if Liverpool score.’”
Foster noted the imbalance between the clubs at the time: “Liverpool were at the top, and we were struggling. They beat us 5-0, and he was jumping around celebrating every goal.”
Foster’s co-host, Tom Ochoa, added, “The first goal came in just three minutes, I think it was [Sadio] Mane. Paddy and his mates jumped up in the family enclosure. The steward came over and said, ‘We have to ask you to leave; you’ll get murdered if you stay in here doing that.’”
After being thrown out, Pimblett took to Instagram, thanking Foster for the tickets and expressing his disdain for Watford by saying, “I hope you get relegated.”
Following the match, Foster was inundated with messages, realizing the fallout from the incident. “I looked at my phone and saw thousands of messages,” he recalled. “I thought, ‘oh no.’ I ended up getting a week’s fine for that, which cost me £150,000. So, thanks for that, Paddy.”
