High waves curtail swimming in Phang Nga

With high waves roiling the Andaman Sea, hotels along the Phang Nga shore posted red flags on their beaches on Monday morning to warn people against swimming.

The provincial administration issued an urgent notice to hotel operators after the southwest monsoon began lifting waves to two and three metres.

The resorts also had security staff verbally warn guests about the potential danger.

The Meteorological Department forecast that waves above two metres in height would hit the coast in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun on Monday because of the monsoon.
