Parts of Phichit and Nakhon Sawan remain inundated after the influence of tropical storm Son-Tinh caused heavy downpours and floods in nine provinces between July 17 and 20, affecting nearly 900 residents.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on Friday advised people in the North and Northeast to remain alert to severe weather conditions caused by Son-Tinh, even though itís been downgraded to an active low-pressure front in Laos.
Director-general Chayapol Thitisak said 874 residents of 15 districts in Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, Trat, Phrae, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Tak and Ranong had been affected by flooding earlier this week. As of Friday, 199 people in Phichitís Thab Khlo district and Nakhon Sawanís Pai Salee district were still dealing with flood conditions, Chayapol said.
His department, provincial authorities and other agencies were providing aid and installing pumps while surveying damage to assess compensation.
