Fined for not wearing a mask in Phuket

On Tuesday a French national was arrested for not wearing a face mask in the Patong area.

Djemouai Mhedi was arrested then taken off to the police station and then charged with violating an order issued by the provincial communicable disease committee that requires all people to wear face masks when they are outdoors – a measure put in place to help curb the spread of COVID – 19.

The governor Pakkapong Tawipat had signed the order that went live as from Tuesday and will be active till further notice.

Any persons seen breaking this order will be liable of fines up to 20,000 Baht under Section 51 of the Communicable Diseases Act of 2015 and may be punishable under the executive decree for administration in emergency situations, which is currently in force
