Police raided a factory in Nonthaburi that was producing fake allergy syrup, leading to the arrests of its owner and manager.
On Friday, a team of investigators from the Metropolitan Police Division 7, armed with a search warrant from the Nonthaburi Provincial Court, searched the factory located on a 9-rai (14,400-square-meter) plot in tambon Rat Niyom of Sai Noi district.
Authorities seized 12,000 bottles of counterfeit allergy syrup, 80,000 empty bottles, and equipment used for producing the fake medicines. The bottles had fraudulent “Allerin Syrup” labels.
The factory owner, Mee, 37, and the manager, Thawee, 25, were arrested. Their surnames were not provided.
The raid followed a complaint from a representative of the company that produces the genuine Allerin Syrup, who reported that fake allergy syrup using their brand was being sold online. The complaint was filed with the Thammasala police station.
An investigation by the police led to the factory raid.
Mr. Mee admitted that he and Mr. Thawee had been producing fake allergy syrup under the Allerin brand. Their business partners handled delivery to agents and other online customers.
The owner revealed that the factory had been illegally producing the fake syrup for four to five months, selling about 50 boxes per month, with each box containing 200 bottles and priced at 9,000 baht, generating about 450,000 baht in monthly earnings.
Natthawut Simanurak, the sales manager of the legitimate company, stated that the fake drugs caused approximately 100 million baht in damages to his firm. He believed the factory had been producing fake products for at least a year, selling them in drugstores and to teenage customers.
The suspects are currently in police custody and face legal action.
