Expat Arrested For Punching and Killing Russian Man

A young British man was arrested this afternoon in Pattaya after delivering a fatal punch to a Russian man. The suspect claimed he struck the victim because the victim allegedly expressed a desire to have sex with the British man’s wife during a pool party.

Earlier today, it was reported that Mr. Igor Yasilyev, a 36-year-old Russian, was attacked by an unidentified foreigner at a villa social gathering in Pattaya. The incident occurred at 3:16 AM at a villa in the View Point Village on Soi Chaiyaphruek 1 in Banglamung. The suspect punched Mr. Yasilyev once in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the hard ground, resulting in serious injuries.

Pattaya rescue and medical teams attempted to save Mr. Yasilyev’s life, but he later died at a local hospital.

At 1:00 PM today (May 27, 2024), Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, superintendent of the Pattaya City Police Station, instructed the investigative team from Pattaya City Police Station, in collaboration with Pol. Lt. Col. Piyaphong Ensarn, Inspector General of the Pattaya Tourist Police Station, and Pol. Lt. Col. Weerachai Thinkamut, Inspector-General of the Immigration Bureau, Chonburi Province, to swiftly track down and arrest the suspect. Col. Teerawit identified the suspect as Mr. Ricky Aaron Williams, a 35-year-old Englishman. After the incident, Mr. Williams returned to his residence in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.

Pattaya police collected evidence and obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Williams from the Pattaya Provincial Court for the offense of “Assaulting another person until death.” They successfully apprehended him at a gatehouse in Ban Amphur, Na Jomtien Subdistrict, Sattahip District, approximately 10 kilometers from the villa where the incident occurred. Mr. Williams was then detained for further questioning at Pattaya City Police Station.

Miss Mod, a 28-year-old Thai woman and the wife of Mr. Williams, recounted that her husband had sent her a location map online to invite her to join a pool villa party with friends. She visited the party briefly but left to return to work. Her husband messaged her around 2 AM, expressing his desire to go home. Concerned, she hurried back to the villa and found her husband walking in the middle of the road. She took him back to the villa where the party was held.

Miss Mod stated that the deceased, after becoming drunk, began to sexually harass her despite having his own wife present at the party. According to her, the deceased escalated his harassment and whispered in her ear, allegedly asking her to have sex with him. This provoked her husband, who then punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Without realizing the fatal consequences, the couple left and returned home to Sattahip.

Mr. Williams admitted to delivering the fatal punch and apologized to Pattaya police and the public, expressing remorse for his actions. He remains in custody at the Pattaya Police Station, facing charges of assault leading to death.
