England secured a spot in the Euro 2024 last 16 with a game to spare after Spain’s 1-0 victory over Albania on Monday.
Luis de la Fuente’s win also propelled the Netherlands and France from Group D into the knockout phase.
The Three Lions will conclude their Group C campaign against Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday (20:00 BST) but are assured of advancing.
Gareth Southgate’s squad accumulated four points from a 1-0 victory over Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Denmark. Albania’s defeat cemented England’s status as one of the four best third-placed teams.
A win against Slovenia will see England top Group C. A draw could still secure first place if Denmark does not defeat Serbia. If England and Denmark both draw, tiebreakers will determine the standings based on goal difference, goals scored, and disciplinary points.
England cannot finish lower than third in Group C. Had Albania beaten Spain, England’s qualification would have been uncertain until Tuesday, but Spain’s triumph ensured their progress.
Potential Last 16 Opponents
If England tops Group C, they will face a third-placed team from Group D, E, or F in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday at 17:00 BST. Austria currently holds third place in Group D, while Group E sees Romania, Belgium, Slovakia, and Ukraine all tied with three points. In Group F, the Czech Republic is third, just ahead of Georgia.
Finishing second in Group C would pit England against hosts Germany in Dortmund on Saturday at 20:00 BST.
If England finishes third, they will play Group F winners Portugal in Frankfurt on Monday, 1 July (20:00 BST), or Group E winners in Munich on Tuesday, 2 July (17:00 BST).
