EEC executives to hold more talks on how to get more investment to the area

EEC SMART CITIES

The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee’s new chairman and the Thai Chamber of Commerce intend to hold talks about creating a cooperative investment promotion plan.

Recently, Jula Sukmanop was appointed secretary-general of the EEC.

Sanan Angubolkul, head of the chamber’s board, stated that the government “needs to attract as much investment as possible to the area” this year.

“There have been various initiatives in the EEC zone in the past. The initiatives are still being developed, “Sanan stated.

“We believe that increasing investment in the EEC is extremely essential, but we must acknowledge that we are weak in this area. Fortunately, we are getting assistance from private organizations, “added said.

He added, “We must race to attract capital swiftly.” The government is attempting to attract as much investment as possible into the EEC region this year, he said.

To support the transportation of the growing number of tourists and investors, the private sector is urging the government to expedite all mega-investment projects, including the development of U-Tapao Airport, the Thai-Chinese High-Speed Railway, the High-Speed Train Project Connecting Three Airports, and the Airport Rail Link.

A road show to draw more foreign investors to particular projects and industries will shortly be held by the private sector.

The Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section of the high-speed railway, whose construction started in 2017, has 14 contracts for civil construction work, according to the State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) most current report on the status of the high-speed train construction project for each route.

Ten contracts are in the process of being completed, three have not yet been signed, and one has already been finished, according to data as of February 2023.

Currently, the SRT and the private sector are jointly working on the design components for an airport-to-airport high-speed rail project. Early 2023 is when construction on the project is anticipated to start.
