A disabled teenage girl is still in a critical condition in hospital after she was stabbed up to 60 times in a park last week.
The victim, who has not been named, was subjected to a ‘frenzied attack’ in Sittingbourne, Kent, and was found with multiple injuries last Thursday.
A boy, also 16, has been charged with her attempted murder and appeared in court on Monday.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the dock wearing a grey tracksuit, and spoke only to confirm his name and age.
He was arrested last Thursday after the victim, who is from Sittingbourne, was found with multiple injuries.
Last week, police were seen searching the secluded park known as The Orchards, where the stabbing took place late on the night of Wednesday July 21 or in the early hours of Thursday July 22.
New pictures showed dozens of officers combing the undergrowth and digging up the ground with forks and spades while looking for clues.
In court, prosecutor Andrew Jones said the victim, who struggles with walking long distances due to a physical disability, remains in hospital.
He said she was stabbed in the park 50-60 times and she wasn’t found until around 8am Thursday morning by a member of the public who rang the police.
The defendant, whose parents were in court for the hearing, did not enter a plea. He was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday August 23.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber, of Kent Police, said: ‘We are still appealing for the public to come forward with any information they may have which can assist in this investigation.
‘We are keen to piece together the victim’s last known movements and would urge anyone who has any information to make contact.’
