An investigation is underway following the collapse of a large crane at a condominium construction site in Muang district on Thursday afternoon. The incident resulted in the death of a Cambodian worker and caused damage to eight nearby houses.
The crane, weighing approximately eight tonnes, collapsed around 3:30 PM while lifting construction materials to the fourth floor of a 19-storey condominium project located on the premises of Central Department Store Nakhon Sawan, in tambon Nakhon Sawan Tok, according to police reports.
The 33-year-old crane operator, identified as Laim Pech, lost his life in the accident.
In addition to the fatality, the collapse caused damage to eight houses in the Bang Rao Rakkanjing community, with debris such as metal fragments and tiles striking three cars.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. Central Pattana Residence Co. released a statement expressing condolences to the worker’s family and accepting full responsibility for the damages. The company has also dispatched staff to assess the damage in the affected community.
In response, the Nakhon Sawan municipality issued a letter ordering the suspension of construction until appropriate remedial measures are taken to assist those whose homes were damaged in the incident.
