A sizable snake seen slithering by the roadside in Chiang Mai has stirred worry among locals, prompting discussions about potential solutions to address the recurring presence of such reptiles in the area.
Yesterday, residents reported sighting a large snake along the canal road near the Mae Hia market intersection in Chiang Mai. The incident, which unfolded on June 11, was captured on video and shared on the เชียงใหม่ CM108 ข่าวเชียงใหม่ จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ Facebook page.
The appearance of the snake sparked numerous comments from concerned individuals, with many expressing fear and frustration. Some remarked that they had encountered the snake in the area on previous occasions, indicating a recurring presence.
“This snake has been spotted around here for quite some time.”
“It’s a common sight in this vicinity.”
“It resembles the one we often see near Chiang Mai University.”
Even children’s posts mentioned frequent sightings.
One local resident noted that the snake resembled one spotted near his house on June 5, which had reportedly preyed on his cat.
“My neighbor mentioned that it looks similar to the one caught at her house last month.”
He further mentioned inquiring with authorities about the snake’s release location, learning that it was set free at Doi Suthep. However, the snake returned to the city due to lack of food in the forest, posing risks to pets and residents, as reported by KhaoSod.
“The authorities merely capture and release it. Isn’t there a better solution? Can’t they chip it? Is there a conservation area that won’t pose disturbances to residents?”
In a related incident, a small snake caused a stir at a petrol station in Lom Sak, Phetchabun. It was found coiled near the fuel cap of a motorcycle, startling the owner who had stopped for refueling. Rescue services were called to assist.
Around 12:15 am on June 11, the Sawang Mongkol Sathit Rescue Unit in Lom Sak received a report from a citizen regarding a snake found inside a motorcycle seat at a petrol station.
