The operation targeted a medical clinic, which was being run by an individual without the required licenses. An undercover agent, posing as a customer, visited the clinic with a marked 1,000-baht note to undergo a drug test. Once the transaction was completed, the agent signaled for authorities to take action.
Police and public health officials then moved in and arrested the clinic’s owner, identified as Mr. Krit, 47, who was conducting the drug test at the time. During the raid, officers found the marked 1,000-baht note in the clinic’s cash register and discovered that Mr. Krit had been issuing medical certificates without the proper licensing. Authorities also learned that the clinic had not obtained the necessary permits to operate. In the back of the clinic, they found tools resembling a small laboratory, and a trash bin containing numerous used medical test kits.
Mr. Krit, who admitted to being a government-employed medical technician (or “lab doctor”) at a hospital in Chonburi, confessed to running the clinic for about a year. He explained that although he had prepared the necessary paperwork to apply for a license, he had been too overwhelmed with work to submit it.
An initial investigation revealed that while Mr. Krit held a valid medical license, he lacked the proper authorization to operate a medical clinic. He was charged with running an unlicensed medical facility and providing medical services without the necessary permits. Mr. Krit was taken into custody at Banglamung Police Station for further legal proceedings.
