Bueng Kan man killed in road accident on eve of ordainment

A Bueng Kan man was killed in a road accident just 500 metres from his home after visiting friends and relatives to say goodbye before entering the monkhook.

Police said the accident happened Wednesday evening at 5.30 on a bend in the Ban Nong Tor-Na Waeng road in Moo 8 village, Tambon Na Sawan of Bueng Kan’s Muang district.

Sompong Namwong, 54, whose head was freshly shaved, was killed outright.

Police said Sompong’s motorcycle crashed with a motorbike driven by Pattanapong Namwong, 30, who was severely injured in the incident.

Pattanpong told police that Sompong had apparently lost control of his motorcycle on the road, which was still slippery from a earlier thunderstorm, and hit Pattanapong’s bike.

Relatives said Sompong was scheduled to go into monkhood on Thursday and had his head shaved Wednesday morning before visiting friends and relatives in line with tradition to apologise for any wrongs he may have committed against them.

He was supposed to be ordained for 15 days after a fortune-telling monk told him that he needed to enter the monkhood to ward off bad luck.
