A Bangkok traffic police captain helped a Surin mother deliver her son who became the 32nd baby born under his help.
Pol Capt Pichet Wisetchoke, deputy inspector of traffic sub-division of the Metropolitan Police Division 6, rushed to a rented house on Soi Intamara 25 in Samsen Nai sub-district of Bangkok’s Phayathai district at 5am after learning that a woman with labour pain neded urgent help.
He found Nantha Suparp, 33, in a toilet so he arranged for an emergency delivery and successfully helped her give birth to her son, her third child.
The mother and son were then rushed to Rajavithi Hospital.
Pichet is among traffic police trained to help women give birth at the roadside in a project initiated by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol as pregnant women were often trapped in Bangkok’s notorious congestion and could not reach a hospital in time.
