The final suspect in the fatal shooting of a student at Dusit Technical College in Bangkok turned himself in to the police in Thalang.
Police in Dusit, Bangkok, were notified of a shooting incident on Ranong Soi 2 on November 20, 2023. One student from Dusit Technical College was identified as the casualty.
The three primary suspects in the case were named. One of the accused suspects, Mr. Akkaraphon Sirimekanon, a 22-year-old former student at a Thonburi college, voluntarily turned himself in and was made public.
The Thalang Police informed them that a man only known as Mr. Om, 18, is a wanted suspect. He is being charged with murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, unlawful carrying of a gun in public, unlawful discharging of a weapon in public, and unlawful possession of a firearm in public.
Om turned himself in to the police in Thalang. He escaped to Phuket following the shooting event, and as of Wednesday, November 22, he has been staying at his father’s house in a Pa Klok, Thalang housing development.
Om claimed to his father that he was merely a passenger and had no idea what was going to happen, adding that he was not involved in any killings when he was seated on the back of the motorcycle. After learning of his son’s involvement, Om’s father took him to surrender to the Thai police; he will now be returned to the Dusit Police to face additional legal proceedings.
Based on the arrest order they issued, Thai police did not accept the suspect’s explanation that he was merely an innocent passenger on one of the other shooters’ motorcycles. It was unknown if the suspect had legal representation at the time of publication, and he had not formally entered a plea.
