England players Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Cole Palmer have been nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Seventeen-year-old Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, who helped Spain defeat England in the Euro final, has become the youngest-ever nominee for the award, surpassing Kylian Mbappe, who was 18 at the time of his nomination.
In a notable shift, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, winners of all but one of the last 14 Ballon d’Or awards, have missed out on nominations for the first time since 2003.
Manchester City and Arsenal both secured four nominations, including Rodri, Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, William Saliba, and Martin Odegaard, alongside their English teammates.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, last year’s best goalkeeper, is also on the list, along with Chelsea’s Palmer. Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman earned inclusion after scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. The list also features Granit Xhaka from Leverkusen.
