Police on Tuesday morning arrested a male teacher for the alleged sexual abuse of at least three schoolboys he taught, Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATP) commander Pol Maj Gen Wiwat Khamchamnan said.
With a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court, officers detained a 51-year-old man identified only as Montree, a music teacher at a well-known primary school in Bang Khae district, outside a housing estate in Lak Song area.
He was taken to the ATPD headquarters for questioning.
Pol Maj Gen Wiwat said Mr Montree was accused of having sexually abused at least three boys aged 8-11 years, some of them for over three years.
The teacher was alleged to have committed lewd acts with the boys – including touching their genitals and having them perform acts on him for his sexual pleasure, in toilets or music rooms.
The investigators were examining his mobile phone to see if he had taken videos of his activities.
Mr Montree was initially charged with sexual abuse or attempted sexual abuse of schoolboys aged under 13 years, and committing obscene acts.
The charges carry penalties of up to life imprisonment, Pol Maj Gen Wiwat said.
He allegedly admitted to caressing and kissing them, but not to having a sexual intercourse.
The police investigators recommended that his request for bail be rejected.
