Snakes have become a regualr sight for the Bangkokians. Over the last few years, numerous cases of snakes emerging from people’s toilet has been reported.
The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) clarifies further that there are snakes freely roaming in and around the premise of the houses of the locals.
In 2017, the DNP caught a total of 4,612 snakes out of which 4,519 were pythons.
Yannawa, Hua Mark and Bang Khunnon reported the maximum number of snakes, i.e. 786, 627 and 608 snakes respctively.
Supakorn Pathumrattanakarn, a DNP wildlife expert said that increasing number of snakes was directly related to poor garbage management in Bangkok. Snakes are comfortable living at residential places due to availability of excess thrown away foods in the thrash which are eaten by mouses.
Thus as the saying goes, where there are rats, there are snakes.
He also believes that there are more than one million rats in Bangkok.
In the last few months of 2018, the city police has caught 918 snakes.
