Mayor Poramet Ngampichet has directed officials from the Public Health and Environment Office, the Resources Office, the Sanitation Engineering Department, and Pattaya City Law Enforcement to carry out an integrated inspection of the city’s public drainage systems. The inspection, focusing on Soi 12, Pattaya Beach Road, Pattaya Second Road, and Walking Street near Bali Hai Pier, was initiated due to a significant buildup of grease and waste in the drainage pipes. These blockages have been obstructing water flow, resulting in slow drainage or full blockages during rainfall, which contributes to flooding and raises environmental and hygiene concerns.
Officials are now working to clean and clear the drainage systems to ensure they function effectively, particularly in anticipation of potential heavy rains. The aim is to prevent further flooding and improve public sanitation in the affected areas. Authorities have also urged restaurants to refrain from disposing of used oil in the drainage pipes, as it violates sanitation regulations and causes clogs, making it harder for rainwater to flow smoothly.
