Coventry 1-2 Tottenham: Late Goals Propel Spurs to Carabao Cup Victory

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Carabao Cup, thanks to late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson.

The match began with Coventry taking an early lead in the 61st minute when Brandon Thomas-Asante scored after a well-executed counter-attack. Despite being a challenging opponent, Spurs managed to find their rhythm, with Spence equalizing in the 88th minute after receiving a sublime through ball from Dejan Kulusevski.

Just moments later, Johnson secured the win by expertly dinking the ball over Coventry’s goalkeeper Ben Wilson, sending Spurs into the next round of the Carabao Cup while leaving Coventry heartbroken.

Post-Match Reactions

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou reflected on the match, stating, “It was a tough game. Credit to Coventry; they played outstandingly and put us under pressure. We had to dig deep, but I’m proud of the lads for hanging in there.”

He emphasized the need for further improvement, noting, “We weren’t as fluid in the first half, but it’s crucial that players like Djed and Brennan stepped up and made an impact.”

Brennan Johnson expressed relief after scoring the late winner: “It felt great to score, especially so late in the game. We had to be decisive, and getting this win is really important for us.”

Coventry’s Reaction

Coventry manager Mark Robins acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating, “We defended well for the most part, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. We deserved something from this match and should have finished with a victory.”

Looking Ahead

Following this victory, Tottenham progresses to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The draw for the next round will take place live on Sky Sports after the Liverpool vs. West Ham match on September 25, with fixtures scheduled to commence the week of October 28.
