Tropical Storm Warning for Thailand

Tropical Storm Warning for Thailand
PRESS RELEASE:

Thailand is preparing for the impact of another tropical storm, expected to make landfall tomorrow (September 19), bringing heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides. The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for severe weather as a tropical depression over the South China Sea intensifies into a storm and heads toward the country.

The storm is forecast to first hit the upper Northeast, with the eastern part of the region expected to experience the initial effects. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are predicted, causing low-pressure systems across northern, central, and eastern parts of Thailand. Additionally, a powerful southwest monsoon is anticipated to strike the southern regions, heightening the risk of severe weather.

Flood warnings have been issued for five northeastern provinces along the Mekong River, where rising water levels threaten to cause the river to overflow. Authorities are closely monitoring Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani, where the Mekong is already swollen.

In Nong Khai, parts of the area have been submerged by the river’s overflow, severely disrupting local businesses. While water levels in Nakhon Phanom remain below critical levels, officials are preparing for potential flooding as the situation evolves. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow safety updates as conditions may change rapidly.
