Al Nassr plans to initiate talks this summer to extend Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, talkSPORT understands. The Portuguese superstar’s current deal expires in 2025, and discussions might extend it by another 12 months. Ronaldo is reportedly open to this extension, which would keep him playing until at least 41.
This extension could pave the way for Ronaldo to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, it would offer him a chance to break several records, including the most all-time appearances currently held by his on-pitch rival, Lionel Messi, with 26.
The contract extension will be managed centrally and is considered crucial to keeping Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League for the first year of the next TV rights cycle, up for renewal in 2025. Any new deal would also include a pay raise. Currently, the 39-year-old earns €200 million (£156.6m) plus bonuses.
Ronaldo continues to break records in the Saudi Pro League. With two goals in Al Nassr’s final game of the season, he became the highest single-season goalscorer in SPL history, netting 35 times and surpassing Abderrazak Hamdallah’s 34 goals from the 2019/20 season.
Ronaldo has also become the first player in history to top-score in four different top-flight leagues: the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and the Saudi Pro League, following his stints with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
Additionally, Ronaldo is part of Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad, aiming to win the trophy he first claimed in 2016 for a second time, while also targeting numerous records in Germany.
