A decree signed on May 23 by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam in his capacity as the executive chief of government officials grants Thai government employees the right to take 15 consecutive working days of paid paternity leave to care for their wives after giving birth to a child.
Along with other rights adjustments, those who take 30 consecutive days off to assist their wives after childbirth will only be eligible for 15 days of compensation.
Unless a director-general or equivalent decides they should get paid, but for no more than 15 days, those who take leave for more than 30 days in a succession will not be entitled to any pay while they are away from work.
Within 90 days of their wife giving birth, employees must ask their supervisors for authorization to take paternity leave.
