Thailand logged 11,786 new Covid-19 cases — the fewest since July 20 — and 136 more fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning.
There were 11,515 cases in the general population and 271 among prison inmates.
On Monday, 14,738 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
The 136 new fatalities were between the ages of 14 and 98 years old, and included two Myanmar, two Cambodian and one South Korean nationals.
Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths – 28, up from 23 on the previous day – while a further 29 (down from 52) were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (11), Samut Sakhon (6), Pathum Thani (6), Nakhon Pathom (4) and Nonthaburi (2).
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 37 more deaths (up from 22) – in Chon Buri (14), Ratchaburi (6), Rayong (3), Chachoengsao (2), Nakhon Nayok (2), Phetchaburi (2), Chanthaburi (2), Ang Thong (1), Trat (1), Ayutthaya (1), Kanchanaburi (1), Prachuap Khiri Khan (1) and Saraburi (1).
The Northeast had 10 new fatalities (down from 13) – in Khon Kaen (3), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Buri Ram (2), Si Sa Ket (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1) and Surin (1).
The South reported 12 more deaths (up from 10) – in Narathiwat (4), Phatthalung (3), Yala (2), Chumphon (1), Phangnga (1) and Phuket (1).
The North saw 20 new fatalities (up from 12) – in Tak (8), Phetchabun (3), Kamphaeng Phet (2), Nakhon Sawan (2), Phitsanulok (1), Chai Nat (1), Phichit (1), Sukhothai (1) and Uttaradit (1).
The 11,786 new cases (down from 12,583) included 11,510 local infections and five imported cases.
Of the local infections, 10,345 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,165 via mass testing
Bangkok had 2,788 new cases (down from 3,329), followed by 955 in Chon Buri (up from 650), 811 in Samut Prakan (up from 443), 542 in Samut Sakhon (up from 402), 482 in Nonthaburi (up from 468), 314 in Ratchaburi (up from 299), 296 in Prachin Buri (up from 276), 272 in Songkhla (down from 301), 262 in Narathiwat (down from 401) and 252 in Surat Thani (up from 160).
Greater Bangkok reported 4,860 new cases (down from 5,007) and 57 new deaths (down from 75). Four southern border provinces had 777 new cases (down from 1,329) and 6 new fatalities (up from 5), while 67 other provinces recorded 5,873 new cases (down from 6,073) and 73 new deaths (up from 51).
The five imported cases were from Austria (1), Switzerland (1), Malaysia (1), Laos (1) and Cambodia (1).Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,377,679 Covid-19 patients, 1,235,470 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,406,542 Covid-19 cases, with 1,262,896 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 14,527 during the third wave and 14,621 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The kingdom’s all-time 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
On Monday 129,025 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 132,113), including 4,080 seriously ill patients (down from 4,096) and 818 dependent on ventilators (down from 835).
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 440,800 in 24 hours (up from 373,175) to 226.10 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 6,807 (up from 5,910) to 4.65 million.
The United States had the most cases at 42.14 million, up 109,432 (from 35,450), and the most deaths at 680,274, up 815 (from 251).
