70-year-old Austrian dies from jumping from 14th floor of Patong hotel

A 70-year-old Austrian man was found dead after jumping from the 14th floor of a hotel in Patong, Phuket on Friday.

Learning of the incident at 11am on Friday, Patong police officers and emergency responders arrived to find the man’s body on the roof of a kitchen behind the hotel. His body was taken to Patong Hospital.

The hotel manager told police that the man was not a guest, and CCTV footage showed him being dropped off at the hotel. He was then captured on CCTV going up to the 15th floor and then going down to the 14th floor before jumping.

Police later visited Uwe Hans Hohmann, a 64-year-old German national, who was related to the Austrian man. Hohmann told police that the Austrian did not have any other relatives in Thailand and is not survived by a wife or children.
