A Bangkok-Phitsanulok bus overturned in Pichit early on Saturday after ramming into the rear of a truck, injuring 28 people, police said.
The accident happened at 3:30am on the highway No 117 of the Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok section in Ban Nong Sadao village in Tambon Nong Sadao of Phichit’s Vajira Baramee district.
The Phitsanulok Yarnyont bus driven by Mana Pongsri flipped, and the 10-wheel truck driven by Yaichan Klinhom fell partially into the roadside ditch. The impact scattered steel bars carried by the truck over the road.
Rescuers rushed 13 injured people to Vajira Baramee Hospital, 14 to Sam Ngam Hospital and one to Phichit Hospital.
Passenger Aimwika Khannak said she noticed that the bus was stopping on the roadside every now and then. She said the accident happened while most passengers were sleeping.
Police said the bus left Bangkok at 11pm and was scheduled to reach the Phitsanulok bus terminal at 4am. Police have yet to identify the cause of the accident.
