The Phuket Immigration Office and the island’s 800 lodging operators have worked together to capture more than 1,000 tourists for exceeding their visa limits.
In Phuket, a campaign to reduce crime has had great success; more than a thousand foreigners have been apprehended for overstaying their visas. The Phuket Immigration Office and 800 accommodation providers on the island worked together to achieve this success. These providers established crime-free practices that allow them to report any suspicious actions involving their foreign visitors.
Thanet Sukchai, Phuket’s immigration chief, disclosed that almost 20% more international visitors were registered at hotels in Phuket during the previous two months than there were foreign visitors who came during that time. He also explained how the police had recently used the new database to help them find a missing foreign national.
11 foreigners who had overstayed their visas and four others who had entered Thailand unlawfully were detained as a result of raids that Immigration Police conducted at 1,550 targeted locations in Phuket between May 1 and May 25. 1,050 foreigners overstayed their visas, 391 did not stay at their registered accommodations, and 228 had already fled the country, according to the Immigration Bureau’s Information Technology Center.
331 foreigners who overstayed their visas requested visa extensions, 109 people were reported dead, one person was bedridden, and another had acquired Thai citizenship. Only nine overstayers are facing legal action, according to Thanet Sukchai.Thanet urged anybody with knowledge of visitors violating the law by overstaying their visas or in other ways to contact the Phuket Immigration Office or the Traffy Fondue app.
