Police save inebriated worker from suicidal plunge

Suicidal Plunge: Police managed to grab a man before he jumped from a five-metre-high pedestrian bridge to the road below early Monday morning.

The Bang Khen police station in Bangkok was alerted at 2:40 am to a man sitting on the ledge of a bridge over Ram Indra Road near the mouth of Soi Ram Indra 5.

Police blocked part of the road and a policeman and an official of Poh Teck Tung Foundation went up to talk to the man, who stood up and threatened to jump as soon as he saw the police.

After speaking to the man for a while, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Paithoon Sa-ard, from the police station, grabbed an arm and he and the Poh Teck Tung official pulled him back to safety.

The man was taken to the police station for questioning. He was identified as Danai Noiwimol, 22, a worker in the area.

The man said he had been reprimanded by his father for returning home after drinking with friends.

Police let him return home with his father once he had calmed down.
