The wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, Jillian Lauren, was shot by police during a chaotic chase in Los Angeles, and she has since been charged with attempted murder. According to TMZ, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon following a hit-and-run on a freeway in the Eagle Rock area of L.A.
Three suspects from the hit-and-run fled the scene on foot. One suspect jumped from the vehicle and climbed over a freeway embankment, making his way to a nearby residential street in an attempt to evade capture. After stripping off some clothing to blend in, his efforts failed as police began their search for the suspects.
As officers canvassed the area, Lauren emerged from the couple’s neighboring home armed with a gun. It remains unclear if she fired the weapon, but police reported that she ignored multiple commands to drop it and pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to fire and strike her in the shoulder. She then retreated into her house.
Approximately thirty minutes later, Lauren and her babysitter emerged from the residence with their hands raised and surrendered to police. She was transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and later booked for attempted murder. Law enforcement officials recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from the property.
While the primary suspect in the original incident was apprehended, the other two suspects are still at large.
Jillian Lauren has a notable background as an author; she wrote “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem,” detailing her experiences as a guest of the Prince of Brunei. This incident unfolded just as Weezer is preparing for a performance at Coachella this weekend.
