Wealthy loan shark held in Bangkok

A wealthy loan shark and 14 of his assistants were arrested yesterday (Feb 8, 2019) in Bangkok and its eastern suburbs in one of the biggest crackdowns on mafia-type gangs by the Metropolitan police, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.

The loan sharks charge 20-30 percent interest rates from their borrowers. Known as the “Motorcycle Helmet Gang,” the group lends about 100 million baht to their clients each day.

Police are still collecting evidence that may help them catch the “influential people” behind this illegal business.
