Two Indian Nationals Arrested at Don Mueang Airport for Attempted Cannabis Smuggling
Bangkok, March 10, 2025 – Thai authorities apprehended two Indian nationals at Don Mueang Airport after discovering over 22.4 kilograms of cannabis concealed in snack packages.
The suspects, identified as Mr. Kamarudheen and Mr. Shibin, both 34 years old, were intercepted at the international departure terminal’s check-in counter around 7:30 AM while preparing to board a flight to Prayagraj Airport, India. Their arrest followed a tip-off, leading to a coordinated inspection by Don Mueang police and customs officers.
Upon X-ray screening, authorities found 22 vacuum-sealed plastic bags of cannabis, each weighing approximately 1 kilogram, cleverly hidden inside branded snack wrappers. The suspects were unable to provide the necessary export permits for the cannabis, which remains classified as a controlled herb under Thai law. Although Thailand decriminalized cannabis in 2022, its export remains illegal.
Both individuals now face charges for attempting to export unapproved goods under the 2017 Customs Act. They, along with the confiscated cannabis, have been transferred to Don Mueang police for further investigation.
