Turkish Tourist Bound and Robbed in Pattaya, Loses Over 10 Million Baht in Cryptocurrency
Pattaya police are investigating a robbery in which a Turkish tourist was abducted, bound, and robbed of a laptop and cryptocurrency valued at over 10 million baht. The incident occurred early this morning at a condominium on Soi Wat Boon Kanjanaram.
Authorities responded to the scene around 3:36 AM after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, officers found the tourist visibly shaken and still restrained, with handcuffs and cables binding his wrists and ankles. The condominium’s security staff had provided initial assistance.
The victim recounted that three unknown men gained access to his fifth-floor room using a spare key. The suspects tied him up and coerced him into transferring cryptocurrency using his laptop. After securing the funds, they fled, leaving the tourist locked inside his room.
Desperate for help, the tourist managed to free himself partially and made his way downstairs, where he alerted the building’s security guard. The guard, who requested anonymity, confirmed the victim’s account and noted that the suspects appeared to have a well-planned escape strategy.
Investigators believe the suspects may be acquaintances of the victim, as they had access to a spare key and appeared familiar with the victim’s assets. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the condominium and surrounding areas to identify the perpetrators.
This high-profile case has raised concerns about safety for tourists in Pattaya, a popular destination known for its vibrant nightlife and hospitality. Authorities have vowed to prioritize the investigation and ensure justice for the victim.
Tourists are advised to exercise caution and secure their belongings, particularly digital assets such as cryptocurrency, which have become a growing target for sophisticated criminals.
