A couple left stranded in Thailand after a moped crash have finally made it back to the UK after their nightmare honeymoon.

Rory Sadlier and Abi Harrison, from Tunbridge Wells, were stuck in a hospital in Ko Toa after the young bride suffered a head injury and deep cut to her leg, which could have become inflected, in the accident.

Her wound, which went right down to the bone needed invasive surgery to remove dead tissue. .

Thusband also needed the same procedure on his knee and the pair had to stump up a £12,000 medical bill.

After arriving in the sunny South East Asian destination on Sunday, July 7 the couple planned on starting their once-in-a-lifetime dream trip with a snorkelling excursion

But on their way they crashed their rented motorbike, which they say had faulty brakes, and ended up in hospital.

The holiday makers’ insurer wouldn’t cover their full cost, forcing them to plead with loved ones and concerned internet users to help them cover their costs and get home.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the newly-weds raised £6,675 and were able to fly back to the UK on Monday.

In an update on their GoFundMe page, Rory wrote: “Bruised, battered, broke ad stitched up, we are home.

“Without the support on here that would not be possible. Abi and I will be going straight to A&E from the airport.

“We are so lucky to have such amazing people in our lives. From the bottom of our hearts thank you so so much.”

The husband said the majority of donations came from family, friends and fellow gamers who, like Mr Sadlier, play the popular first person shooter Battlefield.

One friend from the gaming community promoted the couple’s fundraiser on his YouTube channel.
