The Child’s Play Remake Is Now Available To Stream On Netflix

Netflix

Chucky is back. Well… he’s been back for a while, but now you can watch the Child’s Play remake from the comfort of your own home on Netflix – the 2019 release arrived on the streaming service today for fans to have a really wild Friday night in isolation. Reacquaint yourself with the trailer here:

Voiced by Mark Hamill, the doll/disembodied spirit of a serial killer has been given a high tech overhaul – in this new version, the Good Guy toy ‘Buddi’ even comes with his own app. Just what you need your murderous possessed doll to have, really.

Aubrey Plaza, who plays Karen Barclay, set expectations high before the movie was released, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven’t seen our film, just the trailer, but it’s a real throwback horror movie.

“It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it. The reason I did it was for how beautiful the script was. It doesn’t feel like a hokey, shticky, campy movie.”

She added: “I play Karen, the mother, and I have less interaction with Chucky than the actor who plays my son does. I can’t reveal too much. We’re not supposed to talk about Chucky.

“It builds for Karen in a way that I’m interacting with Chucky by the end, but I’m mostly dealing with my son – who I almost believe is behind the mayhem.

“The horror of it all will be for the audience. For me, it’s more of a psychological thriller.”

Reaction among old-skool Child’s Play fans was admittedly mixed. For some, more Chucky could only be a good thing. But others seemed to feel a little alienated by the fact that some of the key players are not involved in the project – especially creator Don Mancini.

However, the latter camp shouldn’t be too disappointed, as Mancini is currently working on a Child’s Play TV series, which will air on Syfy.

According to Comic Book, he recently said in a statement: “I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us.

“The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorised audiences for over three decades now.”

There we go, something for fans old and new.
