Thailand to Incinerate Over 27 Tonnes of Seized Narcotics
The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) will incinerate more than 27 tonnes of illegal drugs on Thursday as part of the country’s ongoing drug suppression efforts.
Apikit Chrojprasert, ONCB deputy secretary-general, joined police and officials on Tuesday to oversee preparations for the large-scale destruction of narcotics. The confiscated drugs, weighing a total of 27.51 tonnes, were seized in 151 cases over the past two months. The haul includes methamphetamine, crystal meth, heroin, ketamine, cocaine, ecstasy, “happy water,” and other illicit substances.
The ONCB is working with agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, and the Police Forensic Science Office to ensure a transparent and well-monitored destruction process. Each batch of seized drugs is scientifically tested to confirm authenticity before incineration.
“The premier has declared drug suppression a national agenda,” Mr. Apikit stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tackling narcotics. The incineration will take place at Akkhie Prakarn Public Co Ltd in Samut Prakan and will be livestreamed on ONCB’s social media platforms to promote public confidence in the process.
