Thailand to Face Afghanistan in Warm-Up Match on March 21

Thailand to Face Afghanistan in Warm-Up Match on March 21

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has announced that the national team, known as the War Elephants, will play a warm-up match against Afghanistan on March 21, 2025, during the FIFA Day break. This game is part of Thailand’s preparations for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

The friendly match against Afghanistan will take place just four days before Thailand’s qualifying match against Sri Lanka. Currently, Thailand is ranked 97th in the world, while Afghanistan sits at 156th.

Details regarding the venue and other specifics of the match will be released later.

New Coach for Chaba Kaew

In related news, Futoshi Ikeda from Japan has been appointed as the new head coach of Thailand’s national women’s football team, Chaba Kaew. FAT president Nualphan Lamsam officially introduced Ikeda on Wednesday, as the team aims to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Ikeda expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I feel really proud and very excited about this new challenge. I will try my best to help Thailand reach the 2027 World Cup finals.”

Additionally, Thailand forward Suphanat Mueanta has returned to Buriram United after completing a loan period at OH Leuven in Belgium since 2023.
