Thailand Covid cases UPDATE

The country registered 24 more Covid-19 fatalities and 13,182 new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Wednesday morning.

This compared with the 17 coronavirus-related fatalities and 10,398 new cases reported on Tuesday morning.

The 24 new fatalities were between the ages of 32 and 95 years old.

Bangkok had six new deaths while there no fatalities in the adjacent provinces.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded five more deaths – two in Ayutthaya and one each in Chon Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Suphan Buri.

The Northeast had six new fatalities in Khon Kaen (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (2), Chaiyaphum (2) Ubon Ratchathani (1).

The South reported four more deaths in Krabi (3) and Phatthalung (1).

There were 13,003 new cases in the general population, 40 among prison inmates and 139 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 12,933 were confirmed at hospitals and 70 via mass testing.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 2,757, followed by 1,133 in Samut Prakan, 641 in Chon Buri, 560 in Nonthaburi, 425 in Phuket, 366 in Samut Sakhon, 306 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 293 in Ratchaburi, 277 in Maha Sarakham and 252 in Chiang Mai.

The 139 imported cases included 51 from Russia, nine from Kazakhstan, eight each from Germany and France and six each from Estonia and Ukraine.

On Tuesday 98,830 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 94,243 on the previous day), including 547 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 527) and 111 dependent on ventilators (unchaged).

The 24-hour period also saw 8,571 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,531,051 Covid-19 cases, including 307,616 cases this year, with 2,409,877 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,344 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 646 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 2.18 million in 24 hours to 400.43 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 11,785 to 5.78 million.

The United States had the most cases at 78.55 million, up 179,169, and the most deaths at 932,443, up 2,777.
