Thailand Covid 19 UPDATE

Thailand logged 10,414 new Covid-19 cases and 122 more fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Wednesday morning.

There were 10,236 cases in the general population and 178 among prison inmates.

The number of new cases rose from the 9,489 announced on Tuesday when the country recorded 129 more deaths.

On Tuesday, 11,580 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

The 122 new fatalities were between the ages of 26 and 92 years old, and included two Myanmar nationals. One death was of a pregnant woman in Chaiyaphum province who had not been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Bangkok logged the most new deaths at 38 (up from 25 on the previous day) while a further 23 were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (8), Nakhon Pathom (6), Samut Sakhon (4), Pathum Thani (3) and Nonthaburi (2).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 25 more deaths – in Ratchaburi (6), Prachin Buri (3), Chon Buri (3), Ayutthaya (2), Samut Songkhram (2), Suphan Buri (2), Chanthaburi (2), Rayong (2), Lop Buri (1), Trat (1) and Saraburi (1).

The Northeast had 7 new fatalities – in Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Chaiyaphum (1), Maha Sarakham (1), Loei (1) and Buri Ram (1).

The North saw 13 new fatalities – in Tak (4), Chiang Rai (3), Phetchabun (3), Kamphaeng Phet (2) and Phichit (1).

The 10,414 new cases included 10,226 local infections and 10 imported cases

Of the local infections, 9,044 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,182 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 1,579 new cases (up from 1,557 on the previous day), followed by 772 in Chon Buri (up from 712), 587 in Samut Prakan (down from 722), 545 in Rayong (up from 259), 517 in Songkhla (up from 281), 485 in Narathiwat (up from 346), 452 in Yala (up from 291), 281 in Ratchaburi (up from 229), 257 in Prachin Buri (up from 191) and 225 in Chanthaburi (up from 170).

Greater Bangkok reported 2,572 new cases (down from 2,696) and 61 new deaths (up from 39). Four southern border provinces had 1,654 new cases (up from 1,331) and 8 new fatalities (down from 10), while 67 other provinces recorded 6,000 new cases (up from 5,183) and 53 new deaths (down from 77).

“CCSA is concerned about the increase in new daily cases in southern border provinces,” said Apisamai Srirangson, assistant spokesperson for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

The 10 imported cases were from France (1), Russia (1), Japan (1), Denmark (1), the United States (1), Sweden (1), Myanmar (1) and Cambodia 3).

On Tuesday 115,423 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 116,711 on the previous day), including 3,232 seriously ill patients (down from 3,283) and 729 dependent on ventilators (down from 738).

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,562,966 Covid-19 patients, 1,432,360 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,591,829 Covid-19 cases, with 1,459,786 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 16,526 during the third wave and 16,620 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom’s all-time 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.Global Covid-19 cases rose by 426,535 in 24 hours (up from 371,530 on the previous day) to 233.55 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,924 (up from 5,351) to 4.78 million.

The US had the most cases at 44.05 million, up 105,633 (up from 81,409), and the most deaths at 711,222, up 1,836 (up from 689).
