Thailand Covid 19 UPDATE

Thailand logged 13,256 new Covid-19 cases and 131 more fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Thursday morning.

Of the new cases, 12,778 cases were among the general population and 478 were found in prisons.

The number of new cases increased from 11,252 on Wednesday, when the country recorded 141 more deaths.

On Wednesday, 13,829 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,495,750 Covid-19 patients, 1,352,936 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,524,613 Covid-19 cases, with 1,380,362 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 15,790 during the third wave and 15,884 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The single-day records peaked in mid-August, with 312 deaths on Aug 18 and 23,418 cases five days earlier.

The 131 new fatalities, down from 141 on Wednesday, were aged two months and 104 years, and included one Myanmar national. The two-month-old victim was born with heart disease.

Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths, with 21, down from 51, while 39 others were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (15), Nonthaburi (10), Nakhon Pathom (6), Samut Sakhon (4) and Pathum Thani 4).

Other central plain provinces recorded 31 more deaths. They were Ratchaburi (4), Saraburi (4), Nakhon Nayok (3), Samut Songkhram (3), Ang Thong (2), Sa Kaeo (2), Rayong (2), Suphan Buri (2), Chanthaburi (2), Ayutthaya (1), Chachoengsao (1), Lop Buri (1), Phetchaburi (1), Ranong (1), Prachin Buri (1) and Chon Buri (1).

The Northeast had seven new fatalities — Buri Ram (3), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Chaiyaphum (1) and Nakhon Phanom (1).

The South reported 24 more deaths — Narathiwat (6), Phuket (6), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Yala (2), Chumphon (2), Songkhla (2), Satun (1), Phatthalung (1) and Trang (1).

The North saw nine new fatalities — Phetchabun (2), Tak (2), Kamphaeng Phet (1), Nakhon Sawan (1), Sukhothai (1), Uttaradit (1) and Chiang Rai (1).

Of the 13,256 new cases,12,763 were local infections and 15 imported cases.

Of the local infections, 10,620 were confirmed at hospitals and 2,143 via mass testing.

Bangkok added one new case to 2,456, followed by 991 in Samut Prakan (+81).

Another 743 were reported in Chon Buri (+28), 663 in Yala (+421), 549 in Rayong (+126), 417 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (+249), 403 in Narathiwat (+46), 388 in Songkhla (-65), 350 in Samut Sakhon (+128) and 323 in Ratchaburi (-132).

Greater Bangkok reported 4,174 new cases (+315) and 60 new deaths (-13). Four southern border provinces had 1,687 new cases (+378) and 10 new fatalities, while 67 other provinces recorded 6,903 new cases (+864) and 58 new deaths (+1).

The 15 imported cases were from the United States (1), Malaysia (3) and Cambodia (11).

On Wednesday 128,367 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, down from 129,071 on the previous day, including 3,422 seriously ill patients, down from 3,464, and 747 dependent on ventilators, down from 753.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 528,265 in 24 hours (up from 456,457 on the previous day) to 230.87 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,319 (up from 8,205) to 4.73 million.

The United States had the most cases at 43.40 million, up 133,620 (up from 120,579), and the most deaths at 699,748, up 2,228 (up from 1,927).
