Thailand Covid 19 UPDATE

There were 56 new Covid-19 fatalities and 8,685 new cases reported over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Tuesday morning.

There were 8,539 cases in the general population and 146 among prison inmates.

Over the past 24 hours 3,797 Covid-19 patients were diagnosed as recovered and discharged from hospitals.

Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 324,849 Covid-19 patients, 228,029 of whom have recovered.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 353,712 Covid-19 cases, 255,455 of whom recovered.

The death toll was at 2,753 in the third wave and 2,847 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.

The Department of Disease Control reported in the afternoon briefing that the latest 56 fatalities were aged 34-96 years. Thirty-one of them had hypertension and 16 diabetes, and five had no chronic illness.

Twenty-one of them had caught the virus from neighbours, colleagues or other workmates. Nineteen either lived in or visited outbreak areas.

Seven visited crowded places including markets and five contracted the disease from other family members.

Bangkok logged 30 of the new fatalities, and there were four deaths in Narathiwat, two each in Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Kamphaeng Phet, Chon Buri and Phetchaburi, and one each in Chachoengsao, Chaiyaphum, Chumphon, Trat, Saraburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phuket, Nakhon Sawan, Pattani, Mukdahan, Si Sa Kiet and Nong Bua Lam Phu.

The 8,685 new cases over the previous 24 hours included 8,527 local infections in all 77 provinces and 12 imported cases.

Of the local infections, 6,026 were confirmed at hospitals and 2,501 via mass testing. Bangkok had the most, 2,631, followed by 561 in Samut Sakhon, 537 in Nonthaburi, 529 in Samut Prakan, 459 in Chon Buri, 189 in Pathum Thani, 178 in Narathiwat, 177 in Nakhon Pathom, 150 in Songkhla and 126 in Udon Thani. Nonthaburi had a new cluster of 312 cases at a supermarket warehouse in Bang Bua Thong district.

Pattani had a new cluster of 29 cases at a religious school. Chon Buri had a new cluster of 14 cases at a furniture factory in Bang Bung district.

Samut Sakhon had two new clusters – nine cases at a metal product factory and eight cases at a lock factory in Muang district.

The 12 imported cases came from China (4), the United Kingdom (1), Switzerland (1), the Philippines (1), Myanmar (2) and Cambodia (3).

On Monday, 95,410 people received treatment for Covid-19 at hospitals. They included 3,042 critically ill patients, 794 of whom were dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 390,026 in 24 hours to 188.07 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 6,387 to 4.05 million. The United States had the most cases at 34.77 million, up 14,715, and the most deaths at 623,029, up 129.
